MANAGER DUTIES
Specific duties of the manager include: assessing players, drafting a team, selecting official coaches, setting practice schedules, and conducting practices. Managers must understand and ensure that the team adheres to Little League and Local Rules (i.e., pitch counts, modified rules for division). Managers take a lead role in communicating with parents and league officials. Given the number of responsibilities it takes to run a team effectively, managers select and assign parents to assist the team (i.e., team parent, score keeper, pitch counter, and other roles deemed necessary).
COACH DUTIES
Working collaboratively with the Manager and helping enforce league and team rules for the players and parents. Attending mandatory trainings and meetings during the season and post-season.
Manager/ Coach Code of Conduct
Cosumnes River Little League (CRLL) is a youth sports program committed to promoting the characteristics of good character, responsibility, leadership, and loyalty. We expect all managers and coaches to support our efforts and adhere to the statements listed below.
As a manager or coach in CRLL, I WILL:
• Model good sportsmanship and show respect to all players, parents, umpires, and opponents (i.e., applaud good play for both teams, and shake hands after each game).
• Praise my players for competing fairly and trying hard
• Encourage parents on our team to praise the players from both teams during the game, and refrain from coaching the players from the stands.
• Learn and abide by the rules of the game and the policies of the league.
• Respect the umpires and their authority.
• Model how to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.
• Directly and respectfully communicate with parents who have a concern about their child or the team. I will wait at least 24 hours after a game to set up an agreed upon date and time to do so.
• Inform a parent as soon as possible if their child has an injury that may affect the safety of him/her or teammates.
As manager or coach in CRLL, I WILL NOT:
• Engage in any taunting or profane language/gestures toward any players, parents, umpires, or opponents.
• Consume or use alcohol, drugs, or tobacco at a Little League event.
• Ridicule or yell at my any player during or after a game.
• Confront umpires on or off the field of play.
• Post negative comments about Board Members, Appointed Committee Members, Managers, Coaches, Parents, Players, Fans, Umpires, and/or the CRLL organization on social media.
Any manager or coach guilty of improper conduct at any game or practice may be asked to leave the sports facility by any League official. Repeated or single egregious violations may lead to suspension or season forfeiture from attendance at games, subject to discussion and approval by the CRLL Board.
Manager and Coach Calendar
There are a number of mandatory events that ALL managers must attend, which include: player assessments, their respective division draft, the manager training/safety meeting, and the manager/coach positive culture meeting. All managers of AAA and above will be expected to attend the All-Star selection meeting in May. These dates will be posted on the League Calendar when they are known.
Coaches are also responsible for attending some of these events, which will be noted as well.
VOLUNTEER PROGRAM COMMITMENTS
We realize that managing a team comes with a healthy time commitment and other sacrifices. In addition, you are all busy with family, work, and other community volunteer efforts.
Managers are not obligated to participate in the CRLL volunteer program (you're already doing a lot!). However, coaches are expected to volunteer for one shift during the season. Other team volunteers must complete 2 shifts.
On behalf of the CRLL Board and players, THANK YOU for the time and talents you invest in the kids in our community.
